A+ Program

The Walnut Grove R-V School District is proud to announce that the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has designated Walnut Grove High School as an A+ School. Walnut Grove School District would like to thank all the community members, parents, students, and faculty for their efforts in making the A+ program possible. The 3 primary goals of the A+ Schools Program are:

  1. To ensure that all students graduate from high school.

  2. To ensure that all students complete a selection of high school studies that is challenging and has identified learning expectations.

  3. To ensure that all students proceed from high school graduation to a college, a post-secondary vocational-technical school or a high wage job with workplace skill development opportunities.

A+ Schools Program eligibility requirements are:

  • Enter into an A+ Schools agreement prior to graduation.

  • Attend a designated A+ School for three consecutive years prior to graduation.

  • Graduate with:

    • ACT 17+ and 2.5 GPA or greater

    • ACT 16 and 2.8 GPA or greater

    • ACT 15 and 3.0 GPA or greater

  • Maintain at least a 95% high school attendance record.

  • Perform 50 hours of unpaid tutoring or mentoring of younger students.

  • Maintain a record of good citizenship and avoid the unlawful use of drugs and or alcohol.

  • File the FAFSA (Federal Free Application for Federal Student Aid)

  • Register for Selective Service if male and 18 years old before graduation.

  • Attend a Missouri public community college or post-secondary vocational or technical school on a full-time basis and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

Schools across the state accept the A+ Scholarship for tuition payment. The updated list of schools that will use the A+ funding for tuition is HERE.

The A+ Schools Program is a school improvement initiative established by the Outstanding Schools Act of 1993. 

A+ status means Walnut Grove students who meet specific eligibility requirements by graduation may qualify to receive state financial funds for two years of tuition, some basic fees at a Missouri 2-year community college or technical school. (All funding is based upon availability of state funds and can be affected by state budget decisions.)

A+ Eligibility Requirements 

  • Attend a A+ designated high school for at least three consecutive years immediately prior to graduation.

  • Graduate from high school with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale

  • Maintain a 95% or higher average attendance record during the four years of high school

  • Perform 50 hours of unpaid school-based tutoring or mentoring for other students, of which up to 25% may include job shadowing

  • Maintain a record of good citizenship and avoided the unlawful use of drugs or alcohol

  • Achieve a score of proficient or advanced on the Algebra I end-of-course exam OR a higher DESE approved end-of-course exam in the field of mathematics.

  • Secure all available federal post-secondary student financial assistance funds that do not require repayment.

  • Perform all other duties and obligations required by state law to be eligible for and receive the benefits of the A+ program

Freshman and sophomores who are interested in participating in the Walnut Grove High School A+ Program must sign the A+ Agreement form which can be picked up at Mrs. Woody’s office. A+ seniors must complete their tutoring hours prior to graduation by enrolling in the A+ tutoring class. All A+ students must work on maintaining their grade point average, attendance percentage, Algebra I EOC requirement, and good citizenship record each year.
